What happened to me at Monica Conroy - GEICO Insurance Agent in Bethel Park
The GEICO agency at 1720 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15241. This is my own experience as a customer. I'm not connected to GEICO or the agency.
On July 20, 2026 I went into the office and bought a motorcycle policy. It was supposed to cost $126 for the term and I paid it in full, in person, that day.
The policy came with coverage forms that I had to sign in the GEICO mobile app. Every time I tried, the app said "system error, try again later." The office told me to go home and try again. I did, and it still didn't work.
The next day, July 21, I emailed the agent who wrote the policy and said I still couldn't sign the forms and asked him to figure out why. He wrote back that he wasn't sure, that he'd just talked to another customer with the same problem, and that I could call the office number and get transferred to auto service. So the agency knew the forms weren't going through and didn't take it any further than that.
I did call, got transferred to GEICO corporate, and was told I didn't need the forms.
That turned out not to be true. Because the forms were never signed, the policy I'd paid $126 for was changed to Pennsylvania state-minimum coverage, which cost about $300 more. I had to call corporate again myself to get the documents sent to me by DocuSign so I could actually sign them. That brought the coverage back, but I was still charged $79.92, prorated, for the time the state-minimum coverage had been in effect.
I went back to the office to ask how they were going to fix it, since the paperwork problem was on their end from the start. They said they couldn't. When I got upset and loud, the owner, Chris Conroy, had Upper St. Clair police trespass me from the property and I was told not to come back.
On October 31, 2026 I paid the $79.92 to GEICO myself so my policy wouldn't lapse. I filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department on October 30, 2026. I'll update this page with what happens.
What I have
- The email thread with the agency from July 20 and 21, 2026, including his reply about the other customer with the same problem.
- GEICO's proof-of-insurance email for the policy from July 20.
- The DocuSign packet from corporate and the billing showing the change to state minimum.
- GEICO's confirmation of my $79.92 payment on October 31, 2026.
If you're a regulator, a reporter, or this happened to you too, I'll share them.
My opinion
I think an agency that sells you a policy, knows the paperwork isn't going through, sends you off to fix it yourself, won't correct the cost when it goes wrong, and then bars you from the building for asking is not one you should use. That's my opinion based on what happened to me.
If this happens to you
- Insurance agents are licensed by the state. You can file a complaint about an agent, not just the company, with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department here: File a Complaint with Your Insurance Company, Agent, Broker, or Public Adjuster. That's the one place that can make them answer.
- Don't leave the office until the forms are actually signed. If the app errors, make them do it on paper.
- Keep every email and every bill.
